UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — The Sokolov-Miller Family Financial and Life Skills is starting its next year of programming in August as students, faculty and staff begin their fall semesters.

A full calendar of financial literacy events, including their Zoom links, can be found at

During the first half of 2020, the center added Financial Literacy Trivia to its remote programming, in addition to its long-standing webinar series. That will continue through the rest of 2020, said Daad Rizk, director of the Sokolov-Miller Family Financial and Life Skills Center.

“With the pandemic continuing, we want to give people as many opportunities as possible to be engaged and learn how to better take care of their finances, ” Rizk said. “Financial health will always be an important part of a person’s wellbeing.”

The next round of trivia is scheduled from 4 to 5 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 3. Participants are encouraged to stick around after trivia for a “Finlit Five,” where participants can talk privately with center staff about any financial concerns or questions.

The first webinar from the center will be from noon to 1 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 25. Most webinars cover specific aspects of personal finances such as mortgages and student loans, but the Aug. 25 webinar will be a financial literacy overview covering core competencies, the elements of financial well-being, steps to financial literacy, freedom from debits and mastering the principles of budgeting.

From noon to 1 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 8, the center will host a webinar on financial SMART Goals, which stands for specific, measurable, achievable, relevant and timely.

The Sokolov-Miller Family Financial and Life Skills Center is part of the Penn State Office of Undergraduate Education, the academic administrative unit that provides leadership and coordination for University-wide programs and initiatives in support of undergraduate teaching and learning at Penn State.
