UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Jiajun "Harry" Luo, son of Yan Zhang and Bing Luo of Foshan, Guangdong Province, China, will serve as the college marshal for the Penn State College of Health and Human Development at the virtual commencement ceremony on Aug. 15.

Luo will graduate with a bachelor’s degree in recreation, park and tourism management, commercial and community recreation option. He will be accompanied by faculty marshal, Derrick Taff, assistant professor of recreation, park, and tourism management.

Luo, a seven-time Dean’s List honoree, has been involved with a number of community and student organizations during his time at Penn State, including the Maple Harvest Festival, the Hong Kong Student Association, the Global Student Organization, and the Red Cross. He completed an internship aboard a Carnival Horizon cruise ship, where he worked with the on-board sports team to set up events and earned a certificate to operate rope courses. He was also a member of the Table Tennis Club, participating in the 2018 men’s singles championships at Penn State Lehigh Valley.

“As an international student who is lucky to have the opportunity to study here, the most valuable and meaningful takeaway is the time I spent at Penn State. It is difficult to come here, be here, and finish here while not losing yourself and keeping the initial inspiration," said Luo. "Studying in the United States has become a part of myself, and I hope it will allow me to better serve our society and community in the future.”

Luo is a graduate of Notre Dame High School in Easton, Pennsylvania.
