CATA announces fall 2020 route-specific service changes

UPDATE: CATA will continue to offer early-morning campus transit service via the Red Link and Green Link beginning at 4:45 a.m. weekdays through the fall semester.

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — On Saturday, Aug. 22, the Centre Area Transportation Authority (CATA) will revert from its existing modified reduced service schedule to a COVID-19-adjusted full service schedule. The following is a summary of CATABUS service changes that will take effect on that date.

Please note that those changes proposed by CATA in the early spring related to the A, C, G, and HM Routes, and the addition of a new T Route in Toftrees, have been delayed at this time.

Those with comments, concerns and suggestions related to the planned service changes noted below are encouraged to contact CATA at 814-238-CATA(2282) during normal business hours or to email CATA staff at comments@catabus.com.

Overall service changes effective Aug. 22: 

ALL ROUTES:

  • Service will operate Monday through Saturday only, there will be no Sunday service on any routes.

  • Service will operate on all routes until approximately 12:30 a.m. nightly. Monday through Saturday.

Campus service changes effective Aug. 22: 

BLUE AND WHITE LOOPS:

  • The Blue Loop and White Loop will not operate.

GREEN LINK:

  • Additional capacity will be added to the Green Link, allowing the service to operate from 4:45 a.m. until 6 p.m., with a 25-30-minute frequency from 4:45 a.m. until 6 a.m., and a five-minute frequency from 6 a.m. until 6 p.m., Monday through Friday.

RED LINK:

  • The Red Link will service the condensed hours of 4:45 a.m. until 10 p.m., Monday through Saturday, and will operate on a slightly revised trip schedule.

Community service changes effective Aug. 22: 

There will be no changes to the A (Park Forest), C (Houserville), F (Pine Grove), G (Stormstown), HM (Nittany Mall/Toftrees), HU (Toftrees/University Terrace), P (Tussey Mountain), and S (Science Park) Routes from their normal full service schedules.

B (BOALSBURG) ROUTE:

  • The mid-day 11:37 a.m. trip on the B Route will be eliminated.

K (CATO PARK) ROUTE:

  • The K Route will operate on a reduced 60-minute frequency throughout the service day.

N (MARTIN ST./AARON DR.) ROUTE:

  • The N Route may experience minor trip schedule changes.

  • Service on the N Route will operate at a 40-minute frequency throughout the day.

NE (MARTIN ST./AARON DR. EXPRESS) ROUTE:

  • The NE Route may experience minor trip schedule changes.

  • Service on the NE Route will operate at a 20-minute frequency throughout the day.

NV (HAVERSHIRE/MARTIN/VAIRO/TOFTREES) ROUTE:

  • The NV Route will be eliminated.

R (WAUPELANI DRIVE) ROUTE:

  • The R Route may experience minor trip schedule changes.

  • Service will operate on the R Route at a 40-minute frequency throughout the day, with service extended to service The Yards.

  • The R Route will no longer service Stratford Drive.

RC (WAUPELANI DRIVE/CAMPUS) ROUTE:

  • The RC Route may experience minor trip schedule changes.

  • Service on the RC Route will operate at a 20-minute frequency throughout the day, with service extended to service The Yards.

RP (WAUPELANI DRIVE/DOWNTOWN) ROUTE:

  • The RP Route may experience minor trip schedule changes.

  • Service on the RP Route will operate at a 40-minute frequency throughout the day, with service extended to service The Yards.

V (VAIRO BLVD.) ROUTE:

  • The V Route may experience minor trip schedule changes.

  • Service on the V Route will operate at a 40-minute frequency throughout the day.

VE (VAIRO BLVD. EXPRESS) ROUTE:

  • The VE Route may experience minor trip schedule changes.

  • Service on the VE Route will operate at a 20-minute frequency throughout the day.

VN (TOFTREES/VAIRO/MARTIN/HAVERSHIRE) ROUTE:

  • The VN Route will be eliminated.

W (VALLEY VISTA) ROUTE:

  • The W Route may experience minor routing and trip schedule changes.

WE (HAVERSHIRE BLVD. EXPRESS) ROUTE:

  • The WE Route may experience minor trip schedule changes.

  • Service on the WE Route will operate at a 20-minute frequency throughout the day.

XB (BELLEFONTE) ROUTE:

  • The XB Route will operate with service ending at 6 p.m., Monday through Friday. There will be no Saturday or Sunday service.

  • CATARIDE service will also operate in Bellefonte Monday through Friday only, returning patrons to the Bellefonte area no later than 7 p.m.

  • CATAGO! service will operate in Bellefonte Monday through Friday, 6 a.m. until 11 p.m., and Saturday, 6 a.m. until 7 p.m.

XG (PLEASANT GAP) ROUTE:

  • The XG Route will operate with service ending at 6 p.m., Monday through Friday. There will be no Saturday or Sunday service.

  • CATARIDE service will also operate in Pleasant Gap Monday through Friday only, returning patrons to the Pleasant Gap area no later than 7 p.m.

  • CATAGO! service will operate in Pleasant Gap Saturday only, from 6 a.m. until 7 p.m.

GAME DAY SHUTTLES:

  • The S. Atherton and Downtown Game Day Shuttles will not operate this season.
