UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- Student parking registration for the fall 2020 and spring 2021 semesters will be available exclusively online at transportation.psu.edu on the following dates:
- Tuesday, Aug. 18, at noon (Off-campus student Commuter - SCR)
- Wednesday, Aug. 19, at noon (Off-campus long-term storage - P43)
- Thursday, Aug. 20, at noon (Resident student permits - B11, L22, L42, L81, L82, YWH, L83)
Due to the conversion of the Nittany Lion Inn to student housing and classroom space for the fall 2020 semester, Transportation Services will offer the YWH student permit option at the Nittany Parking Deck to students living at West Halls and the Nittany Lion Inn. YWH permits will be available as single-semester permits only and will be priced at the standard single-semester core student permit rate. Students living at West Halls and the Nittany Lion Inn will also have the option to purchase a permit for Lot 83 (located on Hastings Road just east of University Drive).
Student parking permit eligibility
- Active Penn State ID and Access account.
- License plate(s) information (vehicles must be owned by the student or a member of the student's immediate family).
- Completed at least 29.1 credits, with the exception of commuter and graduate students.
General registration
Upon completion of the registration, students print a temporary permit to display on their dashboard for immediate parking. Students may return to their account to print the permit if a printer is not available when completing the registration.
Permits will be mailed to the student's local or campus address. To ensure prompt and accurate delivery, students must enter the complete address, including the street number and apartment number. Failure to notify the State College post office of a new off-campus address through submission of their green address change card before registering for a permit may prevent permit delivery.
Once the permanent permit has been delivered, the printable temporary permit must be discarded and the permanent permit displayed on the rear view mirror of the vehicle.
With a large volume of traffic expected on the Transportation Services website at the start of the registration period, any students encountering issues are urged to avoid double clicking or using the back button, as these actions may result in errors with your transaction. If issues arise while attempting to complete the registration, exit the site and contact Transportation Services for assistance.
Permit upgrades
General student parking registration will not be available at the Transportation Services office. However, students eligible for upgrades, such as select graduate assistants, student-athletes, and those with a state-issued Americans with Disabilities Act placard, must visit the Transportation Services office to obtain an upgraded permit. General student parking registration must be completed online prior to applying for any upgrades. Students registering for short-term, one-day or motorcycle-only permits must also register at the Transportation Services office.
No Blue Loop or White Loop campus transit service for fall 2020
Penn State and the Centre Area Transportation Authority (CATA) made a joint decision not to run the Blue and White Loops during the fall 2020 semester. The Blue Loop and White Loop are University-contracted services, and Penn State instead made those buses and drivers available to CATA for other service routes in the community that transport students, faculty and staff to and from campus. By redirecting these resources to peak demand periods for these routes, CATA expects to reduce the average number of riders per vehicle to help mitigate COVID-19 risk associated with longer wait periods in densely populated areas and confined spaces. CATA will continue to operate the Red Link and Green Link campus routes, with additional service to be added to the Green Link, and Transportation Services will also continue to operate its two Campus Shuttle routes, though with reduced capacity.
On Saturday, Aug. 22, CATA will revert back from its existing modified reduced service schedule to a COVID-19-adjusted full service schedule. Full details on CATA's fall 2020 service plans can be found at the Transportation Services website.
