ALTOONA, Pa. — Penn State Altoona will feature artwork by Ivyside Juried Art Exhibition winner Noah Breuer. This exhibition, “Heirloom,” which is free and open to the public, will run Aug. 27 through Oct. 4, 2020, in the Sheetz Gallery of the Misciagna Family Center for Performing Arts.

Breuer, a Berkeley, California, native, is an American artist and printmaker. He is currently an assistant professor at Auburn University. He received his BFA in printmaking from the Rhode Island School of Design and his MFA from Columbia University. He also holds a graduate research certificate from Kyoto Seika University in Japan in traditional woodblock printmaking and paper-making. His has been featured in solo exhibitions in California, Maine, and Illinois. His work is part of the permanent collections of the Whitney Museum of American Art, Watson Library at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and the Brooklyn Museum of Art.

“Heirloom” explores the complex heritage of the Breuer family’s former textile printing business, Carl Breuer and Sons. The works in this exhibition incorporate swatches, tablecloth designs, and other fragments from Carl Breuer and Sons’ archives.

“Carl Breuer and Sons was stolen from the family five years before my father’s birth in Los Angeles in 1944, so neither he nor I ever imagined inheriting the business or even working in the textile industry,” states Breuer. “Instead, I have inherited the story of my European forefathers, which informs my identity and worldview. In the absence of physical heirlooms, I have created my own, experimenting with new materials and techniques and reimagining the original CB&S products within a fine art context.”

The Galleries are open Monday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. For further information, call the Misciagna Family Center for Performing Arts at 814-949-5452.

All visitors to campus are expected to follow Penn State's requirements for social distancing, masking and other COVID-19 spread mitigation factors. For the latest information, visit virusinfo.psu.edu.
