Applications are now open for all Penn State campuses, colleges and programs interested in hosting a fundraising campaign during Penn State’s #GivingTuesday.

This year's #GivingTuesday — which will take place on Tuesday, Dec. 1 — marks the sixth year that Penn State has participated in the international celebration of philanthropy. The day of giving highlights the achievements of faculty, staff and students across Penn State, seeks to raise funds for a variety of initiatives and is one of the University’s most successful fundraising efforts. Last year, Penn State’s #GivingTuesday celebration broke institutional records by generating more than 7,600 gifts in less than 48 hours. In total, the 2019 event raised more than $710,000 dollars to benefit more than 85 University programs and initiatives.

Those interested in taking part in the event — and raising both program awareness and funding — can apply online before the application closes on Sept. 18. All are welcomed to participate. Approved applicants will be featured on Penn State’s #GivingTuesday website, with various challenges available to promote donor participation.

The campaign #GivingTuesday is an opportunity to not only encourage philanthropy, but to recognize the important role alumni and friends play in the University community. The event encourages Penn Staters to give back and support future generations of leaders and visionaries.

Student groups can also host #GivingTuesday campaigns, and their past efforts have garnered tremendous success. Last year, 20 of the #GivingTuesday fundraising pages were student-run, raising nearly $32,000 from more than 600 gifts. Students are invited to submit applications online by Sept. 18.

Questions about the day or the application process should be directed to givingtuesday@psu.edu.

Gifts made on #GivingTuesday 2020 will advance “A Greater Penn State for 21st Century Excellence,” a focused campaign that seeks to elevate Penn State’s position as a leading public university in a world defined by rapid change and global connections. With the support of alumni and friends, “A Greater Penn State” seeks to fulfill the three key imperatives of a 21st-century public university: keeping the doors to higher education open to hardworking students regardless of financial well-being; creating transformative experiences that go beyond the classroom; and impacting the world by fueling discovery, innovation and entrepreneurship.
