Zietsma tabbed as 2019-20 recipient of Penn State Smeal Faculty RISE Above Award

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Penn State Smeal College of Business Director of Honor and Integrity Michelle Darnell recently announced that Charlene Zietsma has been selected as the 2019-20 academic year recipient of the Faculty RISE Above Award.

Zietsma is an associate professor of management and organization and a Dean’s Research Fellow.

The RISE Above Award honors faculty members for their commitment to advancing Smeal’s goals of promoting honor and integrity. This commitment can be demonstrated through any combination of teaching, research or service-related activities.

“To me, refraining from bad behavior is a baseline expectation. Acting with honor and integrity means contributing to the collective good and trying to leave the world better than it would have been without me,” Zietsma said. “That’s why I focus my research on social change. If we acted collectively, we could defeat COVID-19, climate change, and other problems associated with our interdependency.”

Zietsma’s work related to honor and integrity was reviewed by a selection committee and ultimately recognized as exemplary and deserving of recognition.

“Commitment to honor and integrity plays a critical role in Smeal’s efforts to be one of the very best business schools in the world, and faculty play an integral role in achieving our related goals through their contributions to extraordinary education, impactful research, and service,” Darnell said.
