WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Pennsylvania College of Technology recently became one of 94 colleges and universities across the nation to become part of the FARE Food Allergy College Search database.

The database is operated by FARE (Food Allergy Research & Education). FARE is dedicated to improving life and health for 32 million Americans with potentially life-threatening food allergies, advocating for research and providing resources, support and hope for the food allergy community.

The database spotlights campuses that make food allergy accommodations, allowing students who may be facing special dietary needs to make those considerations part of their college search.

Penn College offers 13 of the 14 accommodations considered in the database. Those include posting ingredient information, developing cross-contact procedures, providing preordered meals and a gluten-friendly station, offering roommate accommodations, and having epinephrine available for use by campus emergency responders

Visit the FARE Food Allergy College Search at www.foodallergy.org/college. To find a full list of Penn College’s accommodations, enter “Pennsylvania College of Technology” in the “search by school name” field.

The extensive project, spearheaded by Rebecca L. Pawlik, Penn College’s registered dietitian, required collaboration among Dining Services, Disability Services, Health Services and Residence Life.

Penn College is one of six Pennsylvania colleges and universities participating in the food allergy college search.
