O'Shea's research focuses primarily on improving academic achievement and persistence; full participation in educational contexts; and health and well-being among students with disabilities in post-secondary settings. Her research has covered topics including understanding the role of autonomy-supportive teaching practices in promoting well-being and educational success among college students with disabilities; assessment of Internet-based educational interventions for individuals with mental illnesses; the relationship between educational attainment and recovery of adults with psychiatric disabilities; and disability identity, disclosure, and use of campus-based support services among college students with psychiatric disabilities. The ultimate goal of her research is to promote the full and meaningful participation of persons with disabilities in the community, workforce and educational settings. O’Shea earned a doctorate in educational psychology at Temple University.
