Health Promotion & Wellness offers various free wellness activities this summer

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- Health Promotion and Wellness (HPW), a unit of Penn State Student Affairs, will host a variety of new free wellness activities this summer.

The activities, which range from interactive activities, yoga and meditation and more, are designed to help students de-stress and improve focus.

These new summer offerings are in addition to other regularly offered wellness services, such as stress management, sleep, and nutrition/healthy eating. These additional activities are intended to address the number of stressors students may be experiencing amid the pandemic and racial injustices:

Stress mini series

On Tuesdays, HPW staff will guide students through understanding stress and how it affects us, identifying what causes stress, and learning how to manage it. The mini series will be from 4:15 to 5 p.m. July 14 until Aug. 4  via Zoom at https://psu.zoom.us/j/8759051724

Well-being Wednesdays

Every Wednesday from 4 to 4:45 p.m. July 1 to Aug. 5 a community health educator will guide students through engaging activities as part of “Well-being Wednesdays.” Each 45-minute session is a series that walks students through the steps of identifying stressors and helps them practice skills to manage stress. The activities are meant to help students gain skills that they can use in everyday life. Examples of activities include:

  • Creating a stress management goal
  • Identifying stress management techniques
  • Understanding mindfulness

Yoga and meditation

Sima Farage will guide a yoga and meditation class from 5;15 to 6:15 p.m. every Wednesday. The class will run from July 1 to Aug. 12. Pre-registration is not required. Students can access this class via Zoom at https://psu.zoom.us/s/95209330866.

Stress Management 101

HPW has created a short self-guided course to help with managing and reducing stress. This course will help students:

  • Develop an understanding of stress and its impacts
  • Identify stressors
  • Develop coping mechanisms, strategies and tools to manage stress
