UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — The Penn State Office of Physical Plant will conduct a second round of elm tree spraying July 9-10 at University Park. Spraying will begin from the ground at approximately 9 p.m. on Thursday, July 9, and will continue with an aerial application by helicopter from first light until approximately 6 a.m. on Friday, July 10. Both applications are weather permitting, and signage will be posted in the affected areas.
This is the second of two elm sprayings planned for the spring and summer; the first application was completed in May.
The Office of Physical Plant sprays the trees twice each year, typically in May and July, to help slow the spread of Dutch elm disease and elm yellows and protect the remaining American elms on the University Park campus. The applications are carefully timed to best control the pest and benefit the trees, and to be as minimally invasive as possible to the campus community.
