HERSHEY, Pa. — Aimee Hagerty will join Penn State Health Hampden Medical Center on Monday, July 6, as chief nursing officer. Hagerty will be responsible for nursing practice and administrative, operational and financial functions of nursing and clinical areas for the new acute care hospital, which is scheduled to open in Hampden Township in 2021.

“We are thrilled that Aimee will be joining our executive team,” said Don McKenna, Hampden Medical Center president. “She has a solid track record of improving clinical quality, enhancing patient experience, and aligning medical staff and nursing teams in search of common goals. We are confident that she will provide valuable leadership in our efforts to meet the unique health care needs of West Shore communities and the broader Harrisburg area.”

Prior to joining Hampden Medical Center, Hagerty served as chief nursing officer and transplant administrator for UPMC Chautauqua and Hamot hospitals in Jamestown, New York, and Erie, Pennsylvania.

When she joined Chautauqua, one of her areas of strategic focus was patient experience. After improving and hardwiring certain processes, Hagerty created a model of rapid change in the organization that catapulted patient experience to a top percentile ranking in obstetrics and significantly improved scores in the Emergency Department and other inpatient areas.

In addition to building Hamot’s transplant program from the ground up, she has served as clinical director, director of education, clinical nurse educator and an infection control practitioner. For the last 10 years, she also has served as a lecturer at Penn State College of Nursing.

“As a Penn State graduate and instructor, I am honored to join Penn State Health as chief nursing officer for Hampden Medical Center,” Hagerty said. “I look forward to taking part in creating a new hospital that will deliver the quality outcomes and great patient experience associated with Penn State Health to residents of the West Shore and surrounding communities.”

A board-certified nurse executive, Hagerty holds a master’s degree in nursing from the University of Phoenix and an MBA from Chatham University. She also earned a bachelor’s degree in nursing from Edinboro University and a bachelor’s degree in finance from Penn State.
