Physical Plant issues 2019 annual Water Quality Report

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Penn State’s Office of Physical Plant issued its Annual Water Quality Report on June 9, which found the University drinking water system met all federal and state drinking water quality requirements in 2019.  The full report can be viewed at https://opp.psu.edu/unit/potable-water.

Drinking water for the campus is produced at the University Water Treatment Plant where the water undergoes microfiltration, granular activated carbon adsorption and nanofiltration treatment to produce drinking water of the highest quality for our customers. Water sampling required by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection is conducted at the water treatment plant and throughout the water distribution system in the interest of community safety and regulatory compliance.

Due to the pandemic, many buildings had very little or no water use for several months. As the University continues to plan for the phased return of students and employees to campus, the Office of Physical Plant has been preparing buildings for occupancy by flushing out water systems and performing water quality tests as part of its continuing safety efforts.

Those with any questions regarding the Annual Water Quality Report can contact Jim Hosgood, OPP water services supervisor, at 814-863-6187.
