HERSHEY, Pa. — Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center has earned its eighth consecutive A grade on The Leapfrog Group’s semiannual safety ranking report card. The Spring 2020 Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade represents the highest mark possible and reflects the Milton S. Hershey Medical Center’s continued commitment to patient safety.
“Receiving an A from Leapfrog is indicative of the work that we’ve done to provide the safest medical care possible,” said Dr. Jennifer Goldstein, acting chief medical officer at Hershey Medical Center. “Our staff, both clinical and nonclinical, are fully committed to that.”
Each spring and fall, Leapfrog evaluates 28 measures of publicly available hospital safety data to assign grades of A, B, C, D or F to more than 2,600 hospitals across the nation based on their performance in preventing medical errors, infections and other harms among patients in their care. The A grade, according to The Leapfrog Group, reflects a continued commitment to patient safety and the reduction of avoidable harm.
“Because of COVID-19, there is now a heightened awareness of safety efforts within medical care settings,” said Goldstein. “Patient safety has long been our top priority and that is reflected in our continually receiving the highest rating from Leapfrog spanning several years now. We’re consistently evaluating our processes to see if there are any potential areas where we can improve to make sure that we can provide all of our patients with the safest and highest quality of care possible.”
