Penn State Learning offers new resources and programming

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Penn State Learning, which offers tuition-supported tutoring, has published several new website features and expanded one program to summer sessions.

In early June, Penn State Learning launched a Resources web page that has links to an array of academic services offered by different colleges and departments at Penn State University Park and beyond.

“We wanted to have everything in one central place for students to find the best tutoring and academic help based on their enrolled program,” said Neill Johnson, director of Penn State Learning.

Also recently launched is the page For New Students and Families. This page includes a form allowing new students and their families to schedule a Zoom call with a tutor in the subject of their choice to learn how tutoring works and what it takes to become a tutor.

For the first time ever, Guided Study Groups are being offered this summer for select chemistry and physics courses, with Zoom links provided to students in supported sections via Canvas. These groups are led by trained course alums who engage their peers in applications of key concepts, extensive problem-solving and practice exams.

In order to help students navigate all of the many cocurricular resources and engagement opportunities at Penn State, a cross-unit team recently developed a Student Support page at keeplearning.psu.edu. This page can help returning and incoming students alike find the programs they need to be successful and involved at the University.

Tutoring continues virtually

As usual, students seeking help with math and writing this summer may make appointments with tutors through Starfish. Appointments are remote via Zoom. The Penn State Learning website has more information, with different pages for math and writing. The Study Smarter Workshop will also be offered on six dates in July. This virtual workshop will help students better monitor their learning so they don't waste time and effort on ineffective strategies.
