Ten elected to serve on Alumni Council

Alumni Council is an all-volunteer governing body that advises and guides the Penn State Alumni Association on programs and initiatives to uphold its mission of service and support to Penn State. UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Ten alumni leaders have been voted onto Alumni Council — the Alumni Association’s governing board — and will begin their terms July 1.

New members elected to serve on Alumni Council, along with their vote totals, are Karen E. Keller (6,624), Trisha Fehlinger Mikita (5,929), Tracey D. Baker (5,746), Susan Robinson (5,409), Scott Shirley (5,259), James M. “Jay” Weitzel Jr. (5,039), Katie Dunn (4,870), Leila Farzam (4,744), U. Grant Crampton IV (4,344), and Kelsey Karpinski (4,212).

Each of these 10 alumni will serve a three-year term from July 1, 2020, to June 30, 2023. For full information on Alumni Council, visit the Alumni Association’s website.

Of the 143,631 eligible voters, 10,969 voted, for a voting percentage of 7.64%The election was administered and results were certified by Votenet Solutions Inc., of Washington, D.C.

Following is a brief biography of each newly elected Alumni Council member: 

  • Karen E. Keller, class of 2000, Eberly College of Science. Keller, of Chadds Ford, Pennsylvania, is partner at Shaw Keller LLP.
  • Trisha Fehlinger Mikita, class of 2000, College of Earth and Mineral Sciences. Fehlinger Mikita, of State College, Pennsylvania, is the vice president for content at AccuWeather.
  • Tracey D. Baker, class of 1993, College of Health and Human Development. Baker, of Philadelphia, is an informational technology specialist for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services/Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.
  • Susan Robinson, class of 1994, College of Health and Human Development. Robinson, of Long Island City, New York, is a self-employed speaker, adviser and facilitator.
  • Scott Shirley, class of 2003, 2004g, College of Engineering. Shirley, of Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania, is the founder and CEO of PledgeIt.org.
  • James M. “Jay” Weitzel Jr., class of 1974, College of the Liberal Arts. Weitzel, of Springfield, Virginia, is a retired division counsel and corporate director for Northrop Grumman Corporation.
  • Katie Dunn, class of 1991, Smeal College of Business. Dunn, of Robbinsville, New Jersey, is regional sales manager for Nexlink Communications.
  • Leila Farzam, class of 2014, Penn State Altoona; and 2016g, College of Education. Farzam, of Bethesda, Maryland, is an independent consultant and a doctoral candidate at Penn State.
  • U. Grant Crampton IV, class of 1999, College of Engineering. Crampton, of Fairfax, Virginia, is a senior manager of information technology for the Boeing Company.
  • Kelsey Karpinski, class of 2016, Penn State Altoona. Karpinski, of Spring Mills, Pennsylvania, is a solution architect at Atos.

In addition, and in accordance with the bylaws, the officers of the Alumni Association will be appointing 10 additional members of Alumni Council. The 10 appointments will be announced in the near future.
