UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Campus Recreation, a unit of Penn State Student Affairs, will continue its ESports leagues as part of the intramural program for University Park students through the summer of 2020. Two separate sessions, with a wide array of video games, are scheduled for the summer during June and July for University Park students to participate in.

Summer Session A will offer nine games, including: Rocket League, FIFA20, Fortnite, MLB The Show 19, MLB The Show 20, Hearthstone, NBA2K20, Trivia, and Words with Friends. This first summer Esports session registration opens on May 18 and closes at 5 p.m. on May 28. The season will run from June 1 through June 26.

Summer Session B is scheduled to offer eight games, including Rocket League, NHL20, Madden NFL20, Overwatch, Settlers of Catan, Hearthstone, Words with Friends, and Trivia. Registration opens on June 15 and closes at 5 p.m. on June 25. This season will run from July 6 through July 31. Students can register through the IMLeagues website.

At the conclusion of the spring 2020 semester, Campus Recreation’s inaugural Esports intramural league served a total of 1,045 participants on 759 registered teams who competed in 1913 scheduled games. This extraordinary turnout made it clear that ESports should remain part of the University Park Intramural Sports calendar for the foreseeable future, said Dexter Shorter, associate director for programs in Campus Recreation.

“We received a very positive response from students during our first Esports season, so it became evident that Esports is here to stay within the Intramural Sports program here at Campus Recreation,” said Shorter.

Esports participants must have their own gaming console or computer and may join a registered team at any time. It is up to each team captain to continue adding members to their team. At the conclusion of both sessions, champions from each game will be "crowned" and sent a Penn State Intramural Sports champion t-shirt.

For more information, participants can visit the Intramural Sports page on the Student Affairs website or contact imsports@psu.edu.
