Karly Ford, assistant professor of education (higher education), was invited to join the editorial board for the Journal of Higher Education.

Maithreyi Gopalan, assistant professor of education in the Department of Education Policy Studies, received a grant of $41,650 from the Spencer Foundation to support her study, “The Effect of the ACA Medicaid Expansions on Children’s Development.” In addition, Gopalan, along with Kelly Rosinger, assistant professor of education and research associate in the Center for the Study of Higher Education, and Jee Bin Ahn, a graduate research assistant in the College of Education, have a new article, “Use of Quasi-Experimental Research Designs in Education Research: Growth, Promise, and Challenges” in Review of Research in Education.

John Holst, associate professor of lifelong learning and adult eEducation in the Department of Learning and Performance Systems, has a new article in Adult Education Quarterly: “Toward a Theory of Race, Change, and Antiracist Education.”

Matthew Johnson, assistant professor of education (science education) and research associate in the Center for Science and the Schools (CSATS), and his co-investigators Anthony Schmitt, professor of molecular virology and infectious diseases at Penn State Huck Institutes of the Life Sciences,  and Eugene Lengerich, professor of epidemiology at Huck Institutes, received an award from the Huck Institutes and the Social Sciences Research Institute (SSRI) titled, “Increasing Understanding of COVID-19 through Online Learning Modules for K-12 and Community Education.” Amber Cesare and Tiffany Lewis, STEM education outreach specialists at CSATS, and will assist, as will WPSU with programming and instructional design support. This is a six-month grant worth $37,786.

— Trang Pham, a doctoral student in educational leadership, and Chris Kirk, a doctoral candidate in higher education, were recently elected to serve as members to the College of Education Graduate School Council.
