Employees reminded of Flexible Spending Account deadline change

As announced in a Friday, March 27, Penn State Today article, Penn State Human Resources has authorized HealthEquity, the University’s spending accounts vendor, to extend the deadline to Monday, June 1, 2020, to submit for reimbursement or to substantiate purchases made using 2019 Flexible Spending Account (FSA) funds.

Previously, the deadline to submit these receipts was Tuesday, March 31. However, HR authorized the extension of this deadline to accommodate employees who may need more time due to the challenging circumstances the community is currently facing related to the pandemic.

The Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economics Security (CARES) Act changes how employees can use their HSAs and FSAs. HealthEquity has created a website to help our community understand this information and has included an FAQ as well. Visit the CARES Act microsite or check out the CARES Act flyer. The flyer illustrates how the money in your FSA can be spent on qualified medical expenses for you and your family. However, a full listing of the eligible expenses can be found on the HealthEquity website

Questions regards the CARES Act and your HSA or FSA should be directed to HealthEquity at 866-346-5800.
