UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — A rising Penn State senior has submitted a video to a national contest promoting the 2020 Census, a contest designed to help amplify trusted voices in hard-to-count communities and to fill content voids in order to bolster census response rates. The video includes several other Penn State students, as well as University President Eric Barron.

Sebastien Kraft, a journalism major, Schreyer Honors Scholar and member of the Presidential Leadership Academy, submitted “We Count” for the contest. Competition participants were challenged to explain why the census matters in a short video that uses creativity, entertainment, emotion and/or humor.

Video submissions will be judged for: potential impact: ability to reach hard-to-count populations; technical quality; viral potential; and creativity. The grand prize winner will earn $30,000, with $10,000 for the runner-up and $10,000 for a top student prize.

All winners will be announced in May.
