UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- April 22 marks the 50th anniversary of Earth Day, marking the day in 1970 when 20 million Americans, roughly one in 10 nationwide, demonstrated against the deteriorating state of the environment due to pollution and other human-related activity.

Earth Day was originally envisioned as a teach-in across college campuses and while many colleges and organizations across Penn State had planned in-person Earth Day activities similar to those held in 1970, social distancing measures in response to the novel coronavirus pandemic have shifted this year’s celebration to a virtual one. While the events will not take place in-person, the following online offerings present the opportunity for broader participation across all Penn State campuses and their surrounding communities.
