UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – As part of Penn State's 2020 spring commencement activities, Cory Steinle will represent the College of the Liberal Arts as its School of Labor and Employment Relations (LER) student marshal.
In response to the growing coronavirus pandemic, orders from the state government and recommendations from global public health organizations, Penn State will hold its spring 2020 commencement ceremony via livestream on May 9. The virtual ceremony will recognize all Penn State undergraduate students and all graduate students in the Penn State Graduate School.
In addition to his LER major, Steinle is completing a master’s degree in human resource and employment relations through an integrated undergraduate-graduate program. He has a second undergraduate major in communications arts and sciences and minors in English and business in the liberal arts. He is a Schreyer Scholar, a Paterno Fellow, and a member of the Presidential Leadership Academy.
“Access at Penn State is unbelievable. The people I’ve met and experiences I’ve had I could never get anywhere else,” said Steinle. “LER has an amazing alumni network and the financial support I’ve received from the College is unparalleled.”
Steinle noted his two on-campus jobs were integral in shaping his University experience. He was a tutor at the Speaking Center and a coordinator at the Writing Center. Steinle said, “As a coordinator, I’ve implemented performance management and data practices and was able to apply a lot of what I’ve learned in LER.”
After graduation, Steinle will join Deloitte LLP as a human capital analyst in their Government and Public Services consulting practice. His goal is to work in industry for the time being, but he has not ruled out graduate school in the future to pursue his interests in employment law and policy.
Steinle’s advice for his fellow students is to take advantage of everything the University has to offer. “When you have all these opportunities, they shape who you are and who you become. I’ve heard that you become the average of the five people you spend the most time with, and Penn State has given me five really good people to be around.”
