Changes to official transcript costs to go into effect April 1

The Office of the University Registrar has announced that the cost of requesting an official Penn State transcript will be changing effective April 1, 2020. From that time, official electronic transcripts will cost $5 per transcript set and official paper transcripts will cost $15 per transcript set.

Both official electronic and paper transcripts currently cost $10 per transcript set. A transcript set includes all levels of coursework (undergraduate, graduate, law, medical, and nondegree) completed by a student.

"We are pleased to announce the price reduction for electronic transcripts, as more and more students and alumni are choosing that delivery option when ordering their official transcript from Penn State," said Kaitlyn Roberts, associate registrar for customer service in the Office of the University Registrar. "We have been trying to avoid a price increase for paper transcripts for some time now, but with processing and mailing costs continuing to rise each year, it has become necessary."

The Office of the University Registrar processes nearly 90,000 official transcript requests each year. Over 70% of those requests are for secure electronic PDF transcript documents which can be retrieved online. The remaining requests are for paper transcripts, which are printed and mailed by the Office of the University Registrar to the requested address.
