Laurel Highlands basketball team to be honored for conference championship

LEMONT FURNACE, Pa. — The Laurel Highlands boys basketball team will be honored at the USCAA Men’s Division II Basketball National Championship Game on Wednesday, March 11, at Penn State Fayette, The Eberly Campus.

Despite a loss in the opening round of the PIAA Class 5A playoffs, the Mustangs are celebrating their first WPIAL championship title since 1968, defeating Mars by just one point last week.

The team, along with Head Coach Rick Hauger, will be honored on the court at halftime by a national audience. The game starts at 7 p.m. in Penn State Fayette Main Arena. Tickets are available for purchase on-site and at https://uscaa.ticketleap.com/.

The Laurel Highlands boys basketball team includes seniors Keandre Cook, Tyvaughn Long, and Timmy Smith; juniors Nick Egnot, Charles Fronczek, Jeremiah Green, Jordan Martin, Caleb Palumbo, Kaydin Phillips, Shineill Thomas, and Tarrance Thomas-Brown; sophomores Joe Chambers, Scott Henderson, Nico Johns, Demonte Kiss, Jayden Pratt, and Ayanze Sumpter; and freshman Rodney Gallagher. Assistant coaches include John Smith and Dierre Jenkins.
