ERIE, Pa. — The Penn State Behrend men’s basketball team defeated Medaille and Penn State Altoona in Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference matchups. The team carries a 13-5 conference record into its final home game of the regular season.
Penn State Behrend’s volleyball, tennis, bowling, wrestling, and track and field teams also were in action last week. Here are the highlights:
Men’s basketball
Penn State Behrend 71, Penn State Altoona 58
Penn State Behrend 81, Medaille 74
Tyler Gates, a senior from Titusville, scored a career-high 21 points against Medaille, shooting 80% from the floor. Kenny Fukon, a junior from Cranberry Township, added 20 points.
Women’s basketball
Penn State Behrend 71, Penn State Altoona 68
Penn State Behrend 69, Medaille 55
Alanna Dibble, a sophomore from Lakewood, New York, scored 19 points and grabbed 10 rebounds against Penn State Altoona. Kara Haslett, a sophomore from Baden, tied her season-high scoring with 17 points against Medaille.
Men’s volleyball
Penn State Behrend 3, Thiel 1
Jake Albert, a senior from Cranberry Township, recorded 19 assists. Josh Matthews, a senior from Rochester, New York, had a team-best 10 digs.
Men’s track and field
Phoenix Myers, a junior from Erie, won the 800-meter race at the Cornell Invitational with a time of 1:59.01. He also won the mile run, with a time of 4:20.40. Braeden Smith, a junior from Erie, won the high jump, clearing a height of 2.08 meters.
Women’s track and field
Jenna Shelton, a senior from Cabot, won the 800-meter race at the Cornell Invitational, finishing in 2:19.58. Savanna Carr, a junior from Franklin, won the mile run, finishing in 5:19.39.
Men’s tennis
Baldwin Wallace 5, Penn State Behrend 4
Ricky Dong, a freshman from Beijing, won at No. 1 singles, beginning with a tiebreaker in the first set. Mason Harbaugh, a freshman from Greensburg, and Jimmy Lobdell, a sophomore from Warren, won at No. 3 doubles.
Women’s bowling
Penn State Behrend 3, Pitt-Bradford 0
Fourth (of seven teams) at the Pat Lacey Memorial Tournament
Brianna Lundy, a senior from North Huntingdon, had the highest score at the Lacey tournament with a 195. Natalie Denny, a sophomore from Harborcreek, scored a 180.
Wrestling
Alex Barnett, a freshman from Warren, placed third at the PSUAC invitational, held at Penn State Fayette. He posted a 5-1 record, with one win by pin, two by decision and two by default. He wrestles in the 165-pound weight class.
