MONACA, Pa. — Penn State Beaver students will give a special performance of Eve Ensler’s "The Vagina Monologues."

The performance will be held at 5 p.m. Feb. 13 in the Penn State Beaver auditorium. The event is open to the public. Penn State students are free. A $2 donation from others will benefit the Women’s Center of Beaver County.

The purpose of the event is to raise awareness about violence against women and girls and to raise money for local organizations working to end violence. The performance is part of V-Day, a global movement to end violence against all women and girls, including those who are cisgender, transgender and those who hold fluid identities that are subject to gender-based violence.

“This is a great opportunity for our women-identifying students, faculty and staff to feel empowered to talk about these issues as well as an opportunity for everyone else to show their support,” said Romina Holder, coordinator of residence life and student engagement at Penn State Beaver.

The Associated Press said of "The Vagina Monologues": “Ensler breaks taboos by talking, talking and talking some more — stripping fear and shame from what she celebrates here. It makes for quite a party. Funny, outrageous, emotionally affecting, and occasionally angry. … 'The Vagina Monologues' confront words to demystify and disarm them. In do doing, Ensler disarms the audience, too.”

Audiences should be aware that the performance does contain adult and sexual content and graphic language and situations.
