The Penn State Altoona Alumni Society held its eighth annual Winter Plunge event on Jan. 25, 2020, on campus. About 50 participants took part in games and a frozen T-shirt challenge, met Bear E. White, and snacked on pizza and snow cones. A total of $7,027 was raised for Penn State Altoona's Ivyside Eats food pantry through the event.

Team awards, in the form of actual plungers mounted on wooden bases, were given out in three categories. The Gold Plunger Award went to the Penn State Altoona Blue and White Society, while a community team and the Lion Ambassadors received Silver and Bronze Plunge Awards respectively. Pat Rafter was the top student fundraiser and received an Apple Watch, while top community fundraiser, Chris Fischer, received the official Winter Plunge polar bear hat and a Penn State Altoona Alumni Society insulated mug.
