UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- The John A. Dutton e-Education Institute will be hosting its first annual “Speed Dating with Learning Technologies” for faculty, staff and graduate students in the College of Earth and Mineral Sciences from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 13, in two locations: 116 Steidle Building and the adjacent atrium.

This event will run on the speed dating model, where individuals rotate through a series of five-minute interactions with potential “partners” -- in this case, learning technologies.

“Speed Dating with Learning Technologies” will feature short, focused introductions to the following tools: Zoom, Turnitin, Lightboard, R Shiny, Slack, Snagit, Kaltura, Pen Display and Adobe Spark.

Participants will be able to see these technologies in action and will gain access to additional resources. To learn more about technologies that catch their interest, attendees can sign up for a “second date,” or a consultation with the Dutton learning design team.

Jennifer Babb, instructional designer, and Maria Wherley, learning designer and writer-in-residence, are co-chairs for this event and anticipate an energetic and fun afternoon full of information.

“We’re looking to bring a bit of silliness and a smidge of camp to this event, too,” Wherley said.

“And holding it just before Valentine’s Day is a perfect fit,” said Babb.

Register for “Speed Dating with Learning Technologies” by Feb. 7.

If you are unable to attend but would like to learn more, a webpage with links to the day’s presentations can be requested. For consultation with the Dutton learning design team for any of your teaching and learning needs, please contact Stevie Rocco, director of learning design, at sxr133@psu.edu.

The Dutton Institute is the College of Earth and Mineral Sciences’ learning design unit, utilizing the latest research in education and technology to help enhance online, resident and hybrid courses.
