WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. — A civil engineering technology major at Pennsylvania College of Technology is one of four students to be recognized by the American Society of Civil Engineers’ Central Pennsylvania Section for outstanding academic achievement.
Among those presented with a $2,000 check at the section’s recent dinner meeting, the 28th time that the organization’s annual awards have been distributed, was Regina M. Peluzzo, of Philadelphia.
Peluzzo is scheduled to earn a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering technology, with a minor in mathematics, at the end of the spring 2020 semester. She serves in the U.S. Air Force, is employed by Penn College as a Veterans Affairs work-study student, and was the college’s Student of the Month in October.
“Gina is a respected student on campus and demonstrates leadership in the classroom along with outreach activities that promote her career field,” said Carol A. Lugg, dean of construction and design technologies. “She has balanced military deployments with her academic workload and is very deserving of this recognition.”
The scholarship award is available to students at one of six colleges or universities within ASCE’s Central Pennsylvania Section — Bucknell University, Penn State Harrisburg, Penn State University Park, Penn College, Messiah College or York College — or who reside within the section’s geographical boundaries.
The student awards are funded by the Geo-Institute, one of ASCE’s eight specialty institutes, with proceeds from the annual Central Pennsylvania Geotechnical Conference.
