MONT ALTO, Pa. — Aspiring entrepreneurs are invited to venture into the LION Tank for a chance to make their ideas come to fruition.

The competition is offered through the Mont Alto LaunchBox, an initiative of Invent Penn State. Launched in 2015 by Penn State President Eric Barron, Invent Penn State is a $30 million initiative that encourages entrepreneurship and innovation, and assists with programs, tools and resources that help move viable ideas to the marketplace with the intention of making a positive impact on economic development in Pennsylvania and beyond.

Applications for LION Tank are being accepted until Feb. 21 at montalto.psu.edu/psu1/liontank. A panel of business experts will review the proposals and invite selected applicants to pitch their ideas during the “Shark Tank”-like competition, set from 6 to 7:30 p.m. March 4 in the General Studies Auditorium on the Mont Alto campus.

The top two entrepreneurs will receive awards of $1,000 to $1,500, get one year’s access to the LaunchBox facility at 40 N. Second St. in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania, and be provided with other services to help bring their businesses or products into the marketplace.

The Mont Alto LaunchBox opened in January 2019 and is one of 21 innovation hubs across the commonwealth offering free services to entrepreneurs.

Invent Penn State is a coordinated effort spanning 24 campuses, plus numerous institutes and centers. Entrepreneurs enjoy free access to accelerator programs, co-working space, legal and IP advice, mentorship, rapid prototyping, pitch competitions and funding.
