Krishna recognized for Exceptional Moments in Teaching

HERSHEY, Pa. — Dr. Kanthi Bangalore Krishna, assistant professor of pediatrics in the Division of Pediatric Endocrinology and Diabetes at Penn State College of Medicine, is featured for January in the “Exceptional Moments in Teaching” program.

“Before my rotation began, Dr. Krishna really took the time to assess my current knowledge and guided me in the development of my own learning goals,” wrote one current student. “Throughout the rotation, she took opportunities to teach me to make sure these goals were met. Additionally, she created my schedule to maximize my exposure to pathology within the field, which further enhanced my learning. When we did not have the time to cover a certain topic, she would suggest resources at my current knowledge level for self-directed learning.”

Krishna is also rotation director for pediatric endocrinology and course director for the endocrine-reproduction course for medical students, phase 1. Since joining the division four years ago, she has been actively involved in restructuring the endocrine curriculum for medical students, residents and fellows. She helps them develop individualized learning plan to get the best out of their rotations and gives timely feedback in order to make sure that the learning objects of both the rotations and the students are met.

As course director for the medical students, she introduced a well-received simulation session. Krishna received the dean's award for education and has been named a top educator in pediatrics for two consecutive years.
