Even though the holiday season is right around the corner, another season is not far behind – tax season.

While the Penn State community prepares for the holidays, the Payroll Office is offering an incentive to help make tax season a little less of a Grinch.

Beginning today, all employees who opt out of receiving a paper copy of their W-2s via Workday will be entered in a drawing to receive a $75 gift card to the Penn State Bookstore. One gift card will be given away to one employee from among those who change to a paperless only delivery method.

You can opt out of print delivery of your W-2 in the Pay application within Workday. The article Choosing your W-2 Election Method in Workday: Print/Electronic can help guide you through the process of signing up.

Electing to only receive your W-2 electronically will:

  • Help Penn State advance our sustainability goals
  • Save the University considerable paper and postage costs
  • Reduce the risk of your W-2 being lost in the mail
  • Secure your personal information

As a reminder, the W-2 is an annual tax document submitted to the IRS by employers on behalf of their employees. This form documents the employee’s earned income and associated taxes withheld for the year.

The deadline to sign up for electronic delivery and be entered into the contest is Friday, Dec. 20.
