UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — The first two programs in the Penn State Alumni Association's 2020 City Lights series will be held in Florida in Ft. Lauderdale and at The Villages, respectively.
The 2020 series will highlight elements of Penn State's Impact The World Initiative, demonstrating how the Penn State community is imagining, collaborating and inventing its way to a better world. It truly is one community, impacting many.
The program will be one hour in length and will be followed by a reception for all attendees.
Attendees will hear from:
- Featured speaker: Penn State professor Steven J. Schiff
- Guest speaker: Penn State President Eric J. Barron
Schiff, the Brush Chair Professor of Engineering and founding director of the Penn State Center for Neural Engineering, is a faculty member in the departments of Neurosurgery, Engineering Science and Mechanics, and Physics at Penn State.
His section of the discussion, titled "Sustainable Health Engineering for Better Lives in the 21st Century – An Antidisciplinary Approach," will focus on his role leading an interdisciplinary team that's exploring ways to use data and predictive modeling to forecast infectious disease in order to provide treatments.
