Penn State Health names new senior vice president and chief information officer

HERSHEY, Pa. — Penn State Health has named Cletis Earle of Buffalo, New York, senior vice president and chief information officer for the central Pennsylvania-based health system and Penn State College of Medicine, effective Dec. 30.

Earle was recruited from Kaleida Health/Great Lake's Health of Western New York, where he served as senior vice president and chief information officer. He provided leadership for Kaleida Health’s and Great Lake’s information technology (IT) team, overseeing strategic and tactical planning, plus development and coordination of the IT platform.

As chief information officer, Earle will provide vision and leadership for developing and implementing information technology initiatives across Penn State Health.

“Among a slate of many talented candidates at organizations across the country, Earle stood out for his vision, health information technology leadership, and demonstrated success developing IT solutions that enable organizations like ours to reach their goals,” said Steve Massini, chief executive officer, Penn State Health. “We are so excited that Cletis has agreed to join our Penn State Health family to address our current challenges and, most importantly, to help us meet the future needs of our growing organization.”

Earle previously served as vice president and chief information officer at St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital in Cornwall, New York. He began his information technology health career as a support manager at Brooklyn Queens Health Care Inc. in Brooklyn, New York, eventually taking on roles as director of technology and vice president, chief information and privacy officer, within the organization.

Earle is a member and former chairman of the College of Healthcare Information Management Executives. He holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology from the College of New Rochelle in New Rochelle, New York, and a master’s degree in information systems from Strayer University in Washington, D.C.
