ABINGTON, Pa. — One Penn State Abington student identifies as homeless. Another lost his job and can’t feed his family. Others don’t have the money for public transportation to come to class.

All are true stories of Abington students — and there are more — who live with housing, food and transportation insecurity. But these students experienced some relief through the Abington Student Emergency Assistance Fund (SEAF).

Gifts this #GivingTuesday (Dec. 3) will be allocated to the SEAF, which supports the LionShare Food Pantry, helps purchase textbooks, and offsets unexpected urgent needs of students who otherwise may think their only option is to withdraw from school.

"By allocating Giving Tuesday donations to the Student Emergency Assistance Fund, we support our students and keep them on a path toward earning their degrees," Damian Fernandez, chancellor, Penn State Abington, said. "I encourage our Penn State Abington community to contribute to this essential cause. It is extraordinary what we can accomplish when we act in tandem."

This year, the fundraising window begins Monday, Dec. 2, at 18:55 (6:55 p.m.) — representing Penn State’s founding in 1855 — and ends Tuesday, Dec. 3, at 11:59 p.m. Donations may be made through the #GivingTuesday website.

And for Graduates Of the Last Decade (GOLDen Abington graduates), any gift of $5 or more to the Abington #GivingTuesday campaign will be matched dollar-for-dollar up to $100.
