International Education Week Celebrates Benefits of International Education

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Penn State will celebrate International Education Week beginning Monday, Nov. 18, through Friday, Nov. 22, at University Park, with events and activities.

International Education Week is a joint initiative of the State Department and the Department of Education provides an opportunity to celebrate the benefits of international education and how it prepares students for success in the world.

“International Education Week is the perfect opportunity for Penn State to showcase its international students and the diversity of our campus,” said Sridevi Rao, doctoral student in higher education, who is coordinating the week’s events. “We were intentional in our programming and ensured that there will be a range of events available.”

Penn State's activities included a kick-off party for the University community on Sunday, Nov. 17, on the HUB-Robeson Center staircase, with food and performances by student groups.

Events continue this week, including crafting events, an international internships fair, a Tea House, a paper-lantern-making workshop, and more. For a full list of events, visit https://global.psu.edu/article/international-education-week.

Penn State ranks in the top 20 for hosting international students and for sending students abroad, according to the IIE Open Doors Report from 2019. The 2020 report will be released on Tuesday.

In addition, the University is pursuing long-term strategic partnerships, such as the recently announced initiative in Living Materials between Penn State and the University of Freiburg in Germany.

“It is exciting for Penn State to join the nation’s efforts to prepare our students for a global environment by celebrating International Education Week on campus and offering opportunities for our community to learn and grow from one another,” said Rao, who also is a member of the Student Engagement and Intercultural Learning Team in Global Programs.
