Close your eyes as you listen to your favorite song. If you start to see colors, don’t worry, you’re not alone.
“For most of us, our eyes serve as our primary gateway to what's happening in the world around us,” said Gabrielle Dietrich, assistant teaching professor of music and director of choral ensembles at Penn State Behrend. “Perhaps it's natural, then, that our vocabulary for describing music and its world of sounds often begins with terms of color.”
That idea will be reflected later this month in “True Colors,” the fall concert from the Choirs of Penn State Behrend.
The concert will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 17, in the college’s McGarvey Commons. It is free and open to the public.
The concert will include special guests from the Young People's Chorus of Erie's advanced treble chorus, the Concert Chorus, and will include music from classical, world, jazz and pop traditions. A new commissioned work by Minnesota composer Tim Takach also will be performed.
