READING, Pa. — Penn State Berks students will hold two important community service events in November. They will transform Opportunity House, the Reading emergency shelter, into a five-star restaurant on the evening of Thursday, Nov. 7, and assist with the breakfast for veterans at Country Meadows of Wyomissing on Monday, Nov. 11.
Clients of Opportunity House will enjoy a three-course meal and an evening to remember when students enrolled in the college’s four-year Hospitality Management program, and other students throughout the college, participate in this annual volunteer event. The day will begin with decorating Opportunity House’s dining area with centerpieces, lights and various other ornaments provided by the Penn State Berks Hotel and Restaurant Society, a student organization. Students will serve in the roles of cooks, sous chefs, hosts, waiters and food runners. They will work on food preparation from 2 to 5 p.m., begin cooking the dinner at 5 p.m., and serve the meal at 7 p.m.
In addition, Penn State Berks students will assist with a special breakfast for veteran residents of Country Meadows of Wyomissing at 9:15 a.m. on Nov. 11. Students will serve breakfast and help with setup and cleanup for the event.
