UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Paterno Fellow and Schreyer Honors Scholar Steven Schneible was recently named the student representative on the Liberal Arts Alumni Society Board of Directors. Schneible is a junior majoring in English and psychology at Penn State.

The Liberal Arts Alumni Society Board of Directors helps identify and connect Liberal Arts alumni and friends with the college, and works to help ensure the success of the college through philanthropy and engagement with faculty and students. As the student representative on the board, Schneible will work with alumni on the board and provide a student’s perspective and input on alumni-related program development and assessment.

“I'm excited to be working with the board as the student rep so that I can help bring the student perspective to the development of alumni networking programs,” said Schneible who started his new role earlier this semester when the Alumni Society Board of Directors held its annual fall meeting. “Every Penn State student should have the ability to take advantage of the opportunities afforded by the Penn Staters across the country working in just about every field imaginable, and I see it as my responsibility to keep students' voices heard in that conversation.”

Debbie Montick, a 1980 political science alumna and current president of the board, enjoyed meeting Schneible for the first time.

“Steven joined our task force and full board meetings in September and hit the ground running,” said Montick. “He delivered thoughtful comments on improving the board's efforts to increase alumni connection and involvement with academic departments and programs, to help students who are struggling financially, and to help create a more inclusive and diverse community. Steven's spirit of volunteerism, his keen and analytical mind and his willingness to speak up will support the board, the dean, the faculty and staff in accomplishing our mission.”

Schneible is currently the managing editor and fiction committee coordinator at Kalliope, Penn State’s undergraduate literary journal. He is responsible for reading and reviewing student fiction submissions for potential publication, as well as serving as an advisor to the editor-in-chief. He is also a member of the Paterno Fellows Student Advisory Board and hosts a weekly talk radio program at WKPS The Lion, 90.7 FM called "The Narcissism Hour." Steven’s past experience includes serving as a contributor at Onward State, an independent student news publication, and he was a recipient of an Erickson Discovery Grant, which supported his independent research on the fiction of David Foster Wallace, experiences of mental illness, and cognitive-behavioral therapy.
