UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Penn State University Police and Public Safety employees are raising funds for the Penn State IFC/Panhellenic Dance Marathon (THON) during No-Shave November.
No-Shave November is a national event that creates awareness and raises funds to support cancer research and treatment. The concept is to save money typically spent on shaving supplies and to instead put those funds toward cancer research and treatment efforts.
This year, University Police and Public Safety is temporarily lifting a grooming policy allowing its employees, including roughly 160 police officers at 22 campuses, to skip shaving in November when they donate $20 or more to THON.
The community is invited to support this effort by making their own contributions to THON, a Penn State student-run philanthropic effort that supports treatment and research for pediatric cancer.
From noon on Dec. 1 to noon on Dec. 6, the community can vote on Facebook (@pennstatepolice) for the participant with the best facial hair.
“This event is a great way to not only support an incredibly important cause, but it is also a new opportunity for us to connect with and support the community we serve,” said Michelle Beckenbaugh, police officer, event organizer and community-oriented policing liaison for University Police and Public Safety.
