Veterans Day ceremony to honor service members set for Nov. 11 at Old Main

The event will begin at 11 a.m. at the University Park campus

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — A ceremony to honor the service and sacrifices of veterans of the U.S. armed forces will take place at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 11, on the front steps of Old Main on the University Park campus.

The Penn State Student Veteran Organization organizes the Veterans Day ceremony, which is free and open to the public. The event will feature the posting of the colors; a 21-gun gun salute; and guest speakers Justin Rose, a retired U.S. Army captain, and Daniel Van Winkle, a retired U.S. Navy lieutenant.  

The ceremony is part of Penn State’s annual Military Appreciation Week, which celebrates America’s Greatest Generation. The festivities kick off on Nov. 8 and culminate with the annual Military Appreciation Football Game at Beaver Stadium on Nov. 16.

More than 5,600 Penn State students use the GI Bill as either an active-duty service member, a reservist, veteran or military dependent, across all of the University’s campuses, including Penn State World Campus. Penn State has consistently been recognized as a military-friendly school for the many academic programs and support resources available to service members.
