Student volunteers sought for Family Ambassador program

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — The Penn State Parents Program, a unit of Student Affairs, is seeking student applicants for Family Ambassador (FAMB) positions. FAMBs are enthusiastic, driven and diverse undergraduate student leaders who enjoy connecting with and helping parents and families of Penn State students.

Interested students can apply online through Nov. 11.

The Parents Program is looking for students who are committed to working as part of a team, seeking event planning experience, or interested in refining their leadership skills. FAMBs will have the opportunity throughout the year to network with parents, families, students and University leaders. The program also gives students many resumé-building experiences.

“Being part of Family Ambassadors has been the most incredible experience,” said Family Ambassador Jasmine Blades. “I suggest everyone apply because you get to plan and work a variety of events, develop better communication skills, work with amazing people from all walks of life and talk about the University we all love so much.”

The 2020 Family Ambassador term runs from January to November. While not required, it’s preferred that students will be in State College throughout the summer to assist with new student orientation sessions.

FAMBs commit to volunteering four hours of their time each month as well as attending biweekly meetings. Key responsibilities include assisting with Move-In Weekend in August, Parents and Families Weekend in the fall, orientation tabling throughout the summer, and office tasks. Students are expected to represent Penn State in a professional manner and maintain a supportive and welcoming attitude.

For more information about the Family Ambassador program and what FAMBs do, visit the Parents Program website. Additional questions about the program can be directed to parents@psu.edu or 814-863-1313. Students can also stop by the Parents Program office in 222 Boucke to ask their questions in person and meet the staff.
