Behrend volleyball team wins 5-set match against La Roche

ERIE, Pa. — The Penn State Behrend women’s volleyball team won a five-set match against La Roche to remain undefeated in Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference play. The third set of the match included nine ties and three lead changes.

The college’s soccer, cross-country, swimming and water polo teams also were in action last week. Here are the highlights:

Men’s soccer

Penn State Behrend 6, La Roche 0

Penn State Behrend 4, Pitt-Bradford 1

Tyler Vandemerwe, a freshman from Erie, scored twice against La Roche. He also was credited with an assist.

Women’s soccer

Penn State Behrend 2, La Roche 0

Penn State Behrend 4, Pitt-Bradford 0

The Lions have not allowed a goal in four games. Cassidy Ulanowicz, a junior from Gibsonia, and Brenna McGuire, a sophomore from McDonald, each scored against La Roche.

Men’s cross-country

Placed 19th (of 29 teams) at the Oberlin Inter-Regional Rumble

Phoenix Myers, a junior from Erie, placed 65th in a field of 240 runners. He finished the 8K race in 25:56.5.

Women’s cross-country

Placed 22nd (of 32 teams) at the Oberlin Inter-Regional Rumble

Riley Crissman, a senior from Bradford, placed 15th in a field of 283 runners. She finished the 6K race in 22:08.8.

Men’s swimming and diving

Penn State Behrend 162, Alfred State 117

The Lions won 11 of 16 events, including the 200 medley relay. The relay team — Liam Watterson, Chase Bietz, Quinn Fischer and Jacob Schmidt — finished in 1:39.99.

Women’s swimming and diving

Penn State Behrend 175, Alfred State 90

Marcella Puglia, a sophomore from Beaver Falls, won the 1,000 freestyle, the 500 freestyle and the 200 butterfly. She also swam a leg of the winning 200 medley relay.

Women’s volleyball

Penn State Behrend 3, La Roche 2

Penn State Behrend 3, D’Youville 0

Keely Hering, a junior from North East, had 12 kills on 23 attempts against D’Youville. Kristin Reiland, a sophomore from Fairview, added 11 kills and 11 digs.

Men’s water polo

Mercyhurst 13, Penn State Behrend 11

Gannon 19, Penn State Behrend 7

Penn State Behrend 12, Iona 11

The Lions defeated Iona for the first time in program history. Isaak Hatopp, a senior from Saline, Michigan, scored the game-winning goal off a penalty shot with 1:48 remaining in the game.
