Penn State Altoona Athletics recap Oct. 14-21

Men’s golf

  • 2nd Place at the AMCC Championships (329/319)

Sophomore Ethan Yohe (Murrysville, Pennsylvania/Franklin Regional) placed second out of 45 golfers in the two-day Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Championships on Sunday, Oct. 13 and Monday, Oct. 14, shooting 78 in each round for a combined score of 156. Yohe helped the Lions to a second place team finish in the event.

Men’s soccer

  • Mount Aloysius College 4, Penn State Altoona 1
  • Pitt-Bradford 2, Penn State Altoona 0

Senior goalkeeper Tanner Yaw (Palmyra, Pennsylvania/Palmyra) combined to make 15 saves for the Lions in a pair of games last week, stopping eight shots against Mount Aloysius on Tuesday, Oct. 15 before making seven more saves versus Pitt-Bradford on Saturday, Oct. 19.

Women’s bowling

  • Mount Aloysius College 849, Penn State Altoona 492 (baker format)

In Penn State Altoona women’s bowling’s season opener against Mount Aloysius on Sunday, Oct. 20, freshman Kayla Moran (Boalsburg, Pennsylvania/State College) dropped a team-best 156 pins in the traditional team format match.

Freshmen goalkeepers Kaitlyn Harmon (Sunbury, PA/Shikellamy) and Diana Miller (Haymarket, VA/Battlefield) combined to post a shutout of Pitt-Bradford on Saturday, October 19, as Harmon made two saves in the first half and Miller recorded five stops in the second half to blank the visiting Lady Panthers.

Women’s tennis

  • Medaille College 5, Penn State Altoona 3

No. 6 seed Penn State Altoona women’s tennis’ postseason run came to an end on Saturday, Oct. 19, when the Lady Lions suffered a 5-3 loss to No. 2 Medaille College in the AMCC Tournament semifinal round. Junior Sophia Girol (South Park, Pennsylvania/South Park) won her No. 4 singles match 6-2, 6-4 and was also part of an 8-0 win in No. 2 doubles.

Freshman outside hitter Jenna Bauer accounted for 42 points, 39 digs, and 35 kills for the Penn State Altoona women's volleyball team in four matches last week.

In four matches last week, freshman outside hitter Jenna Bauer (Ebensburg, Pennsylvania/Central Cambria) combined to post team-highs with 42.0 points (3.5 points per set), 39 digs (3.25 digs per set), and 35 kills (2.92 kills per set) for the Penn State Altoona women’s volleyball team.
