HERSHEY, Pa. — Nurses, physicians and medical students from Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center recently visited Northwest Elementary School in Lebanon to provide health screenings for students.

Among the goals of the Oct. 2 visit was identifying children who have high medical need for vision or hearing correction, then helping them to access treatment. Many families in the district are economically disadvantaged.

“The earlier health concerns can be detected and addressed, the better prepared children can be for success,” said Judy Dillon, director of community health for Penn State Health.

Since the health screening program began seven years ago, 32,000 students in the Lebanon School District have been screened, and nearly 600 nurses and 650 health professional students have participated.
