UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Another central Pennsylvania winter is just around the corner — and for those who need a break from ice and snow, it’s now much easier to escape to balmy weather.

University Park Airport now offers nonstop, low-cost commercial service to and from two locations in Florida. Allegiant Air operates flights twice a week to Orlando Sanford International Airport and the Tampa/St. Petersburg area via St. Pete-Clearwater International Airport.

Oct. 9 marks the inaugural Allegiant flight departing from University Park Airport.

“Florida is a high-demand market for central Pennsylvania travelers, and now they have convenient access to an ultra-low-cost carrier providing nonstop service to two popular Florida destinations — Orlando and Tampa,” said airport director Bryan Rodgers.

The new routes are on Airbus 319 and Airbus 320, accommodating 150 to 177 passengers. The four weekly flights add more than 600 seats a week departing from University Park Airport.
