Ronald K. De Long Gallery to feature #MeToo Project

"A #MeToo Project: Martha Posner and Amy Arbus" will be on display Oct. 28 to Dec. 14 in the Ronald K. De Long Gallery at Penn State Lehigh Valley.  

Martha Posner and Amy Arbus’ photo and mixed media collaboration keeps the #MeToo discussion going. The two artists will present an installation of Amy's photographs of women wearing Martha's handwritten garments. Inspired by women everywhere, the project pairs art and the female experience, bringing awareness to stories that need to be seen and heard. 

Arbus’ photographs have been published in her five books and in hundreds of periodicals such as New York Magazine, The New Yorker, Aperture and The New York Times Magazine. Arbus is a native New Yorker known for her style feature, On The Street, which ran in The Village Voice from 1980-1990. Her photographs are in the collections of The National Theater in Norway, The Museum of Modern Art, The New York Public Library and The Metropolitan Museum of Art.

Posner is a sculptor living on a farm in Martins Creek, Pennsylvania. She takes much of her inspiration from the 250 acres of surrounding forest, fairy tales and mythology, and her many barnyard creatures. She is a Mary H. Dana Fellow, and an Experimental Printmaking Workshop Fellow. Some of her collectors and exhibitions include: The Allentown Art Museum, The Cleveland Museum of Art, The Butler Museum of Art, Lehigh University, The George Gund Foundation and The Spoletto Festival. Publications and reviews of her work can be found in The New York Times, Surface Design, Art Forum, ArtNews and Sculpture Magazine. She is represented by Accola Griefen in New York City.

A panel discussion, titled “From a Perspective of Healing: Art and Social Service in Dialogue,” will be held from 12:15 to 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 14. An artist reception will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 14, in the gallery. The exhibit, panel discussion and reception are free and open to the public.   

The Ronald K. De Long Gallery is open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Fridays, and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturdays. The gallery is closed on Sundays.
