Student Engagement Network to hold second annual summit on Nov. 13

October 04, 2019

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Organizers from the Student Engagement Network hope to build on the success of the first Student Engagement Summit held last year at the University Park campus, where 130 Penn State employees from diverse professional backgrounds were exposed to a wide range of engagement-related topics.

The 2019 summit starts with registration and a light breakfast at 9 a.m. Nov. 13 in Alumni Hall in the HUB-Robeson Center. Opening remarks start at 10 a.m., with breakout sessions starting at 10:40 a.m.

Attendees will again be able to pick from a slate of breakout sessions in rooms throughout the HUB-Robeson Center. This year’s lineup includes “Mapping the Student Engagement Journey,” “Engaging Students in Global Social Enterprises,” and “Fostering Student Engagement at the College Level,” as well as a student panel discussion.

Visit sensummit.psu.edu for a full agenda and registration information. There is no cost to attend. Lunch will be served at noon in Alumni Hall.

Michael Zeman, director of the Student Engagement Network, said he hopes that attendees can walk away from the summit with useful information and better insight on how to foster student engagement in their corner of Penn State.

“The Student Engagement Network is comprised of all the people doing great work at the various campuses and community,” Zeman said. “The summit is an event that calls the network together to share, showcase, design and sometimes re-think the ‘what’ and ‘how’ of engaged learning for students. We hope attendees will be inspired to incorporate meaningful and important ideas that are shared into their offices, programs and communities.”

This year’s keynote speaker will be Tom Hogan, professor of practice in human resource management in the School of Labor and Employment Relations. Among many other positions, Hogan is a Student Engagement Network Faculty Academy scholar for the academic years 2019-2021. Hogan has more than 30 years of experience as a practitioner and academic in his field for AT&T and the University of Maryland, in addition to his experience at Penn State.

The Student Engagement Network is a joint initiative of Undergraduate Education, Student Affairs and Outreach and Online Education at Penn State. The mission of the Student Engagement Network is to advance the power of participation by connecting students with experiences that empower them to make a positive impact as citizens and leaders of the world.
