Penn State students dominated the College/University Student Division of the 2019 Mid-Atlantic Regional Emmy Awards, walking away with victories in four of eight divisions with five first-place finishers at the awards ceremony in Pittsburgh.
With a large Penn State contingent at the event — a mix of current students, recent graduates, faculty members, family and friends — the successful effort was celebrated by many. Entries from the Donald P. Bellisario College of Communications drove Penn State’s effort.
Brandon Pelter, who graduated in May, earned two first-place awards — one for News: General Assignment and one for Sports. He reported on a state police helicopter incident at a Penn State football game and some baseball-related recovery efforts in Puerto Rico, respectfully.
Christian Kouroupakis also earned a first-place award in Sports for his piece titled “Nicky Strong.”
Pelter’s effort from the international reporting trip this spring was one of two that resulted from that spring break working trip.
Danielle Dindak was honored for “Seeds of Resilience: The Future of Farming in Puerto Rico” in the Arts and Entertainment/Cultural Affairs category.
Olivia Mullen completed Penn State’s dominant performance with “Brandi Discovered,” which secured a first-place finish in the Long Form category.
