Campus community invited to an evening of Indian music on Oct. 13

'A Musical Journey through the Seasons' hosted by Society for Indian Music and Arts and Penn State Nritya

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — The Society for Indian Music and Arts (SIMA) and its sister organization, Penn State Nritya, will host a performance of Indian music titled "Rituchakra: A Musical Journey through the Seasons" on Sunday, Oct. 13, at the State Theatre, 130 W. College Ave. in downtown State College.

Student artists from SIMA and Nritya, and well-known visiting artists from India, will perform in this production featuring live, original Hindustani (North Indian) classical music and Indian traditional dance forms, along with storytelling in English supported by acting and Warli artwork.

The event is open to the public and suitable for all ages.

"This is one of our most elaborate and involved projects yet," said Anahita Bharadwaj, Penn State graduate student in agricultural and biological engineering and a member of SIMA and Nritya. "We have been collaborating and practicing over the past few months and are very excited to present our work."

Tickets are $4 (plus tax) for Penn State students with a valid Penn State ID, and $5 (plus tax) for the general public. Tickets are available through the website, or at the State Theatre in person.
